Philip & Odile’s Adventures

Flinders Ranges; Vulkathunha -Gammon Ranges NP and Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary

After unusually high rainfall for the 3rd year in a row, this normally dry area was full of wildflowers, and the greenest it had been for 30 years according to the owners of the privately owned Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary. They have bush, unpowered and powered sites, and many activities such as the popular Ridgetop tour (and a decent restaurant).

From their Acacia Ridge Walk by chance we spotted another Adventurer owner cruising in, owned by Simon and Liz. By coincidence, we had parked next to them in Alice Springs several weeks earlier. The Barraranna Geo Trail was another great walk.

In contrast to the busy Arkaroola we enjoyed quieter spots in the Gammon NP such as Italowie Gorge. We really enjoyed the spectacular views of the understated Monarch Mine Track and the sheer tranquility of this area.
